In celebration of the 2012 London Olympics, Czech artist David Cerny created an athlete out of a 1957 red double-decker bus. The six-ton “London Booster” is equipped with two engine-powered robotic arms and does push-ups. It even grunts like a real life athlete, implying the effort necessary to compete in the Games.
In the words of the artist, “there is one common exercise for every sportsman in the world, and that is push- ups.” The Olympics are a time to display patriotism and embrace cultural differences, but most importantly, recognize what connects us all on a global-scale sport (and a good laugh).
The bus will stay outside the Czech Olympic team’s headquarters in Islington, London for the duration of the Games.
